Legacy Winchester Announces Newly Found Historic News Videos

By Peter Engeldrum

Oct. 14 - Legacy Winchester has discovered historic news videos about the town.  “Focus on Winchester,” with host Allan Eyden, was a local one-hour monthly cable news program. It was cablecast to Winchester Massachusetts residents during the 80s and 90s on Continental Cable’s public access channel 19, the predecessor of WinCAM. The program, the work of executive producer Sandra Rogers, consisted of interviews with local residents and town officials about timely topics around town. Residents can view an episode on the Legacy Winchester web site: https://www.legacywinchester.org/campaign-for-the-sandy-rodgers-tapes.

More than 30 programs are part of this collection, but they were recorded on an obsolete cartridge format, and require specialized hardware to convert them to modern video standards. The Legacy Winchester project is trying to raise funds for preservation of this historic treasure, and also recognize Sandra Rogers, who was also a town activist. The estimated cost to convert them is $60 apiece, or $1,800. Some require additional restoration such as to remove mold.

The budget to convert the format is $2,000.00, and any contribution residents make will help in this project. Donate to Legacy Winchester here. We are a project of the Winchester Historical Society, a 501(c)3 organization, so your donation is tax deductible.
