Winchester News to Get Funding Match
By Tara Hughes
September 22, 2023. As a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), Winchester News, has been accepted into their NewsMatch program which starts in November. Any donations or grants to the News will be matched by the program and potential donors may wish to wait until November to give the News money to hire an editor.
NewsMatch is a national collective fundraising campaign designed to assist communities in supporting public service news reporting by increasing the funding and funding capacity for local news. Individual donations to nonprofit news outlets are matched by national and local finders. NewsMatch has increased funding to local news by over $271 million from 2017 to 2022. The NewsMatch matching gift campaign runs from November 1 to December 31.
Each year, NewsMatch determines an individual match cap and a campaign match cap. In 2022, the individual match cap was $1,000 per individual and the campaign match cap was $15,000. The year’s match cap is calculated based on the size of the NewsMatch fund and the number of participating organizations.
If donors would like to make the most of their donation, please consider donating during the NewsMatch campaign. In addition, community or local matches are welcome during this period. If a funder (individual or business) or group of funders is willing to match donations made to our news source during the NewsMatch campaign please let us know.
